Q: What are the office hours for your main office Our office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please call before stopping by in person to make sure someone is in the office as we have a small staff. Q: Where exactly is your office located? The office of the Southold Town Recreation Department is located in the Southold Town Recreation Center at 970 Peconic Lane in Peconic. Here are local directions: FROM POINTS WEST Heading east on the Main Road (Route 25), you will go through the towns of Laurel, Mattituck, Cutchogue, and into Peconic. You will stay on Route 25 until you come to the Town of Peconic. Look for the Southold Town Police Station on your left hand side. Make the next left hand turn (approximately 2/10 of a mile after the police station). This will be Peconic Lane. You will see Lucas Ford Dealership on the corner. The Southold Town Recreation Center is located approximately 2/10 of a mile down Peconic Lane on the right hand side. FROM POINTS EAST Heading west on the Main Road (Route 25), you will go through the towns of Greenport, Southold, and into Peconic. You will stay on Route 25 until you come to the Town of Peconic. Look for the Lucas Ford Dealership on the corner of Peconic Lane and Route 25 on your right hand side. You will make a right at this corner. (If you pass the Southold Town Police Station, you went too far). The Southold Town Recreation Center is located approximately 2/10 of a mile down Peconic Lane on the right hand side. Q: How do I get program literature about the Department? Our quarterly brochures are available at all local libraries, town hall, and the recreation center. They are also inserts in our local paper, The Suffolk Times. How strict are ages enforced? Children must meet the age requirement set for each program. Our instructors set the age that they feel comfortable teaching and we must strictly adhere to it. Q: How do I register a concern or a complaint? You may register a concern by mail, e-mail (Ken.Reeves@town.southold.ny.us) or by calling the Recreation Office at 631.765.5182. Q: Can I register for a program online using my credit card? Sorry, we are not set up at this time to register participants online. Registration is by mail or in person. Payment (cash, check, Visa or MasterCard) is required at time of registration. Q: Can I register for a program over the phone and pay later? Sorry, we cannot hold spots in programs without payment. This causes too many problems with people forgetting to pay or changing their minds. Q: What is the refund and registration policy? Registration is taken on a first come, first serve basis either in person at the recreation center in Peconic or by mail. Early registrations will not be processed until 4:00 p.m. on the first day of registration. Office hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Payment (either cash, check, Visa or MasterCard) is required at time of registration. Program fees will not be pro-rated. A $20 fee will be charged for any returned check. No refunds given less than two weeks prior to the start of the program. Full refunds awarded if program is canceled. No refunds given for bus trips unless a waiting list is available to provide a replacement. Participants are advised to have a complete physical prior to participating in activities that are strenuous. All participants take part in the Southold Town recreation programs at their own risk. The Town Southold Recreation Department assumes no responsibility for injuries suffered or sustained from risks inherent in participating in department sponsored programs or while using recreation program facilities. Adults are asked not to bring children to any recreation programs or activities. Children brought to adult classes interfere with other participants and the instructor. If you wait, you may be late. Please register early! Q: I don’t live in the Town of Southold, but would like to participate in one of your offerings. Is this possible? Residents receive priority when registering for the recreation department programs and activities. We do allow non-residents to participate in our programs at a later date and for a slight additional fee. Registration dates and program fees for non-residents are listed in our quarterly brochures. Q: How do I forward an idea for a new activity that I’d like to see offered…or one that I would like to teach? Some of our most successful activities and programs have come from ideas by our residents. Sorry, the recreation center is not available for private parties. Q: Does the Recreation Center have tables and/or chairs available for public use? The only tables and chairs that the Recreation Department has are assigned to specific buildings or facilities. They may not be removed or reassigned on a temporary basis. An exception to this rule would be for non-profit or civic organizations that may need to borrow items for a specific event…town board approval may be required, so advance notice is essential. Q: My children are taking swimming lessons this year through the recreation department and I need directions to the beach? Our swimming lessons take place at four bay beaches, directions to each of the beaches is as follows: VETERAN’S BEACH - Off of Route 25 in Mattituck. Take Bay Avenue south (Hess Gas Station is on the corner of Bay Avenue and Route 25). Take Bay Avenue to the end. Make a right onto Peconic Bay Boulevard. Beach entrance is on the left hand side. NASSAU POINT BEACH - From the east: left off of Route 25 onto Skunk Lane, Cutchogue (just past Pindar Vineyards). Follow road all the way down to causeway, 2 miles. From the west: right off of Route 25 onto Eugene’s Road, Cutchogue (at gas station). Make a right onto Skunk Lane. Follow road down 1.5 miles. FOUNDER’S LANDING - Off of Route 25 in Southold, take Hobart Avenue south to the end. (Hobart Avenue is across from Thompson’s Emporium, Main Road Beverage in on the corner of Hobart Avenue and Route 25). At the STOP sign, make a right. Entrance to beach is on the left hand side. GULL POND (NORMAN KLIPP PARK) - Take the North Road (Route 48) East to Greenport. Go through the blinking light and approximately 1/4 mile down make a right onto Manhanset Avenue. Gull Pond (also known as Norman Klipp Park) is located at the end of this road. Q: What documentation do I need in order to obtain resident permits (stickers)? We would need your vehicle registration or a copy of it. We must validate your license plate number. Q: Where can I obtain a sticker to park at a town beach? During the summer season, you may obtain one at any of our three beaches that are staffed with beach attendants: Town Beach, Gull Pond, or New Suffolk Beach. Beach attendants can issue only resident and non-resident stickers. Staff hours over the summer months are from 10:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Permits may also be obtained at the town clerk’s office in Southold. Please call 765.1800 for further information. Q: Where are the town beaches located? The Town of Southold has six staffed beaches over the summer months: GULL POND - GREENPORT Take the North Road (Route 48) East to Greenport Go through the blinking light and approximately 1/4 mile down make a right onto Manhanset Avenue. Gull Pond is located at the end of this road. TOWN BEACH - SOUTHOLD Town Beach is located on the North Road (Route 48) in Southold. Beach is on the sound on the north side of Route 48. KENNY’S - SOUTHOLD Off of the North Road (Route 48), take Kenny’s Road north to end. Kenny’s Road is near Future Machine Products on the north side of Route 48. Kenny’s Beach is located at the end of Kenny’s Road. McCABE’S - SOUTHOLD Off of the North Road (Route 48), take Kenny’s Road north to end. Kenny’s Road is near Future Machine Products on the north side of Route 48. Make a right at the end of Kenny’s Road (North Sea Drive). Approximately ½ mile down on the left hand side is McCabe’s Beach. GOOSE CREEK - SOUTHOLD Off of the Main Road in Southold (Route 25), take Oaklawn Avenue South. Oaklawn Avenue is just west of Southold Town Hall. Go over the bridge to stop sign. Make a left at the stop sign - this is Pine Neck Road. Take Pine Neck almost to the end and make a right on North Bayview Road. North Bayview will curve to the left. Go over a second bridge, Goose Creek is on left hand side of the road. NEW SUFFOLK BEACH - NEW SUFFOLK Off of the Main Road (Route 25) in Cutchogue, take New Suffolk Road south. New Suffolk is just west of the 7-11 store in Cutchogue. Head south on New Suffolk Road for approximately 1-½ miles. At the traffic light, make a left (Main Street) Take Main Street almost to the end. Make a right on 1st Street. New Suffolk is at the end of 1st Street. Jackson Avenue. Q: I am a resident of the Town of Southold (Laurel – Orient)...does my Town of Southold beach sticker permit me to park at any of the park district beaches? To be able to utilize the park district beaches, you must live within the boundaries of the specific park district. These beaches and parks do not come under Southold Town's jurisdiction. Permits may be obtained at the district beach when it is open for the season.
