Southold Youth Bureau Resource Directory

In January 2008, the Town Board passed a resolution to establish a Youth Bureau which is recognized by the state as a major planning tool for municipalities to address the myriad needs of youth (persons under age 21). In 2006 Supervisor Russell convened a “Youth Forum” that included parents, youth, service providers and school district liaisons to discuss ways the Town can assist youth development and to set the framework for establishing a Youth Bureau. In November 2006 Special Projects Coordinator, Phillip Beltz, submitted an application to New York State Office of Children and Family Services that included a preliminary needs assessment. The Town was notified in 2007 that it would be granted Youth Bureau funding for 2008. Please read Report 2009 listed above for accomplishments and details.

MISSION

The Youth Bureau will seek to promote and enhance the physical, mental and social well-being of youth in the Town of Southold. Through collaboration and partnerships with youth, parents, schools, libraries, faith-based institutions and agencies that serve youth, the Youth Bureau will foster proactive planning and coordination of services and programs to address the many needs of youth and their families.

Community Service

Community Service participation is a major requirement for members of the Town of Southold Youth Advisory Council. On November 21^st Youth Advisory Council members and Youth Bureau board members graciously volunteered their Saturday morning to rake leaves for homebound seniors. With 150 leaf bags filled to the brim, it was time to break for pizzas and relax after four hours of hard work. Participants included YAC members Anne Davey, Anthony Losquadro, Griffin Quist, Sarah Parker, Emily Demarest, Shannon Chiaro and Emily Commando along with youth volunteers Darren Standish and Evan Ackroyd and Youth Bureau board members Bonnie Mazzaferro, Diane Mollica, Tom Rabbitt, Jeff Standish and Phillip Beltz.
